The Learning
and Skills Council (LSC) is responsible for funding and
planning all post-16 education and training in England other
than the university sector. The LSC was launched in April
2001, taking over the roles of the former Training and Enterprise
Councils and the Further Education Funding Council. It is
a national organisation operating through 47 local offices
and nine regions. Key responsibilities include the planning
and funding of further education colleges; school sixth
forms; work-based learning; workforce development; adult
and community learning; information, advice and guidance
for adults; and education business links.
